The "automatic media detection" feature (available as an option on A3 models except on the bizhub C451i, bizhub C551i, bizhub C651i, and bizhub C751i where it is standard) uses ultrasonic sensors (for envelopes) and optical sensors (based on the amount of transmitted and reflected light).
This allows the device to automatically detect the type of printed paper (plain, thin, thick, envelope, recycled, coated, index, and colored) for smooth paper feeding. Finally, the ability to add four paper trays (or a maximum of three optional trays on A4 models) helps increase the paper capacity, allowing you to handle more diverse media in a single print job while reducing the frequency of paper replenishing.
